Challenges that must be addressed
Like many urban school districts, Amsterdam faces many
challenges that affect student achievement. For example:
-
34 percent of students are
considered economically disadvantaged
-
18 percent of students have disabilities
with handicapping conditions
-
6 percent of students are identified
as Limited English Proficient (LEP)
The school district must redouble its
efforts to ensure that these students get the extra help
they need so they can be successful, not just on achievement
tests, but after graduation as well.
