English 10 Poetry       Assignment: Directions:

Part 1:

1.  Choose a song from the list and print it. 

2.  Identify four literary elements within the song. Underline or highlight the literary elements. 

3.  Write a journal response in which you discuss how the literary elements you chose help develop the message of the song.

Part 2:

1.  Assume you are the producer and you need to edit the song to make the lyrics different in some way.  You want your changes to evoke a different meaning or feeling from the audience.

2.  You must change at least five lines of the song.  You may only have to change a few words in each line to change the meaning.  You are not required to change every word in the line.  You may also choose to rewrite an entire verse from scratch if you wish.

3.  When you are finished, write a clean, neat copy of your verse.  Turn this in with your original lyrics and your journal response.

4.  Design a creative, original picture for you CD cover.
