Weekly Topics and Themes

These are the topics we cover in Global History I:
 

Topic One:  Our ancestors from five million years ago, their challenges, their solutions, and their cultures.  The Themes we deal with are Interaction with the Environment or Ecology, Revolution or Change, Economy or How People make a Living, Science and Technology.
 


Topic Two:
  Formation of the first or Primary Civilizations in river valleys around the world.  The Themes we deal with are Power and Authority, Economy, Revolution, Empire Building, Science and Technology.
 

Topic Three:  Interaction between cultures and the formation of new cultures and civilizations.  The Themes we deal with are Movement, Religious and Ethical Systems, Cultural Interaction, Empire Building, Science and Technology,.
 



Topic Four:
  First Empires in Egypt and Nubia, Assyria and Mesopotamia, Persia and Southwest Asia, and China.  The Themes we deal with are Empire Building, Science and Technology, Religious and Ethical Systems, and Ecology.

 

Topic Five:  It's Greece!!  Acheans, Dorians, Greek City-States and government, and Alexander's Empire.  The Themes we deal with are Power and Authority, Cultural Interaction, and Empire Building.
 


Topic Six:  It's Rome!!  Latins + Etruscans + Greeks = Romans, and then there are the Twelve Tables, the Republic, and the Punic Wars, the Graccii, Caesar and the end of the Republic, Augustus and the beginning of the Empire, Jesus and the Christians, the Pax Romana, the decline of power, the invasions, the apathy, the fall.  The Themes we deal with are Power and Authority, Empire Building, Cultural Interaction, and Religious and Ethical systems.
