Graduation Requirements

 

  To graduate from Amsterdam High School students must fulfill two types of requirements as set forth below: course requirements and examination requirements.

 

Course Requirements

Students must earn the following course credits in order to graduate with one of the three possible diplomas as follows:
Local/Regents Diploma Advanced Regents Diploma
English - 4 credits English - 4 credits
Social Studies - 4 credits Social Studies - 4 credits
Math - 3 credits Math - 3 credits
Science - 3 credits Science -3 credits
Second Language - 1 credit Second Language - 1 credit
Art/Music - 1 credit Art/Music - 1 credit
Health - 0.5 credit Health - 0.5 credit
Physical Education - 2 credits Physical Education - 2 credits
Electives - 3.5 credits Electives - 3.5 credits*
TOTAL = 22 CREDITS TOTAL = 22 CREDITS

* A three-unit sequence in a language other than English, or a five-unit sequence in business, art, or music

Note: RCT exams may be available for special education students who score below a 55 on a Regents Exam

 

*Passing score 55 or 65 depending on year of entry into high school (see below)

 

For student entering grade 9 in 2005: Students must have at least two scores at 65 or above on the five required Regents exams and all scores at 55 or above.

For student entering grade 9 in 2006: Students must have at least three scores at 65 or above on the five required Regents exams and all scores at 55 or above.

For student entering grade 9 in 2007: Students must have at least four scores at 65 or above on the five required Regents exams and all scores at 55 or above.

For student entering grade 9 in 2008 and later: Students must pass all five required Regents exams at 65 or above.
