The Sound of Music

This is the original Rogers and Hammerstein classic made famous by the movie version starring Julie Andrews.  There are some differences between the movie and the musical!  The focus is still on the young novice, Maria, as she sings her way into the hearts of the VonTrapp family, but the insidious infiltration of the Nazis is less of a backdrop and more of a real threat to the new family.  Political contention and clashes over nationalism pepper the script and the score, all of which had been removed for the movie.  This is the true vision of the masters of midcentury musical theater!
