"Academic Intervention Services (AIS)
means instructional services in English language arts,
mathematics, social studies and/or science, which supplement
the instruction provided in regular classes and are
congruent with the New York State Learning Standards, and/or
student support services which could include guidance,
counseling, attendance and study skills which are needed to
support increased academic performance" (GASD Academic
Intervention Service Plan, 2004)
Requirements for Students in Grades
4-8
"Services are to be provided to students
who score below the NY State designated performance level on
one or more NY State assessments (ELA, math, science, social
studies) or who are at risk of not achieving the standards
in English language arts, mathematics, social studies and/or
science." (GASD Academic Intervention Service Plan, 2004)
AIS
Reading Grade 8
We begin each class with Successmaker. To

here. We then work on a variety of reading skills.
Currently we are working on comprehension
strands, such as, main idea, sequencing, inference, authors
purpose, etc. We will also be working on preparing for the
ELA and learning content vocabulary throughout the year.
***PLEASE ENCOURAGE YOUR
FAMILY MEMBERS TO READ EVERY DAY. THE KEY IS FINDING
SOMETHING THAT INTEREST THEM!!!!!
