Math

 

These are the skills that we learn in Math in First Grade. It is important to continually practice addition and subtraction facts at home as well as in school so that they are known automatically and without counting on fingers.

Chapters 1-3:

         Patterns

         Addition: facts to 12, counting on, doubles facts

         Subtraction: Understanding subtraction, using subtraction to compare

Chapters 4-6:

        Subtraction: strategies for facts to 12, counting back, fact families

        Geometry and Fractions: solid and plane figures, halves, fourths, and thirds

        Time: telling time to the hour and half hour, estimating lengths of time, calendar    

Chapters 7-9:

        Counting to 100: groups of ten, skip counting by twos, fives, tens, odd and even, ordinal numbers

        Place Value, Data, and Graphs

        Money: recognize penny, nickel, dime, quarter; count sets of coins

Chapters 10-12:

        Measurement and Probability: length, capacity, weight, temperature; certain or impossible events.

        Addition and Subtraction facts to 18
