Calendar

October 3 - Staff Development Day. We will dismiss students at 11:40 am.

October 4 - PTA Fall Family Fun Day

October 6 - Field Trip to the Pumpkin Patch 9:00-12:00.  Please send your child dressed for the weather, it will probably be chilly in the morning. Also, we will eat lunch there, so children will need to bring a bag lunch. Cost of the trip to students is $3.00. The PTA is providing $2.00 for each child.

October 13 - Columbus Day  No School

October 14 - PTA meeting 6:00 pm

           - fundraiser due

October 24 - PTA movie night 5:00

October 30, 31, November 3, 4 - Parent-Teacher conferences in the afternoon. Appointments will be sent home. Dismissal on these days is at 12:10.

October 31 - Halloween... Our parade and parties will begin at 10:30 am, and party items will be supplied by the PTA.

We Are Learning!

Reading    

We have finished Unit 1 and will begin working in Unit 2. Click on the Word Wall on my main page, and you will find all of the words we will learn this year by unit. We will learn five new high frequency, or word wall words each week.  We are also starting spelling, and will have tests on Fridays unless there is no school. Please make sure that homework is completed, practice reading words, and reread the take-home books (and others too!) at home. It is very important for students to practice what they are learning at home.

       Math

We will finish Chapter 2, addition and subtraction. Chapter 3 teaches strategies for learning addition facts to 12, and Chapter 4 teaches strategies for subtraction facts.  Children should also practice facts at home. A set of flash cards would be a good idea...and are available at dollar stores.

Science

We are studying the five senses and continuing our study of plants and seeds this month. Seasonal changes will also be a topic of study as Autumn continues.

Social Studies

Christopher Columbus and Columbus Day will be a topic we will concentrate on this month.

Health

Fire Safety will be concentrated on. Please make an emergency plan for your family and practice home fire drills.
