Calendar  

September 12 - We'll be collecting for snack milk. There is a change in the price this year - $2.00. Please make sure that this money is in an envelope marked with your child's name and the type of milk that is to be ordered.

September 25 - Meet the Teacher Night 6:30 pm. Reminders will be sent home, with information about PTA and special programs for that night.

We Are Learning!

Reading    

We will be working in Unit 1 and reviewing the words introduced in Kindergarten. Click on the Word Wall on my main page, and you will find all of the words we will learn this year by unit. The children will also be reviewing letter names and sounds, and reading some easy books. Please make sure that homework is completed, practice reading words, and reread the take-home books (and others too!) at home. It is very important for students to practice what they are learning at home.

       Math

We are working in the readiness chapter and chapter 2 this month. We will be learning about patterns, and beginning to add and subtract numbers.

Science

We are studying plants and seeds this month, concentrating on apples and pumpkins. Seasonal changes will also be a topic of study as Autumn nears.

Social Studies

Self and family are themes this month. We also will be learning about children and their families in Mexico.

Health

Safety is our focus this month. Classroom, playground and bus safety, fire drills, crossing the street, and bike safety will be covered.
