High Frequency Words
High Frequency (HF) words are words that your child should know without hesitation. We start the year with a review of Kindergarten words, and add 5-6 each week. It is vitally important that your child know these HF words, as our stories are filled with them. Without being able to read these words quickly, fluency and comprehension are compromised. In other words, if your child has to "sound out" the HF words, as well as, any new, unknown words, they can become lost or confused by the time they finish the entire sentence. I recommend writing the words on 3x5 cards and using them as flashcards. Just 5 minutes a night with these 5-6 words will have your child "owning" them in no time. What a difference it will make in their reading!! Below is the list of each Unit's HF words. Please use them as a reference to keep on track, or to work ahead.
Unit 1 (review of K) This unit is done in a condensed manner and the children will get almost all of these words at once. As they are a review of the Kindergarten HF words, it is assumed your child knows these words already. If they don't, please help them to catch up. one do is two that my three you red we to at what like and get not the here yellow look am a big go can little up see have but blue in where I it
