Fifth-graders visit the Baseball Hall of Fame

Marie Curie's fifth-graders recently took a trip to the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum, in Cooperstown, and discovered that learning is sometimes about fun and games.

The students traveled to Cooperstown for an educational and exciting theme related field trip. Once at the Hall of Fame, the students were split up into four learning groups, each of which focused on a different theme; communication, math and problem solving, science, and industrial technology, all of which tied into American history.

Baseball was incorporated into each of the lessons to help students better understand each of the four themes. The lessons tied into Marie Curie's magnet school theme by using hands-on activities for learning.

The students also toured the Hall of Fame with their instructors, who focused on different aspects of the lessons. The visit culminated with a movie that connected and summarized the lessons the students learned.

This was a wonderful field trip that used baseball as an instrument for learning. We hope to do this again next year!
