Holiday
food drive a tremendous success
The Marie Curie Institute's Student Council
held its annual holiday food drive in November.
Under the direction of 4th Grade Teacher
Mr. Ziomek, and with the help of countless volunteers from
Marie Curie, the Amsterdam community, and everyone at 1490
WCSS, there was enough food collected to provide Thanksgiving
meals for 24 families of students that attend Marie Curie
Institute.
The
Student Council felt it was important to keep this food local
so that they could help those who live and go to school right
here in Amsterdam. For the first time ever, the donations were
so great that the Student Council will be putting together
food baskets in December for the holiday season.
The support from the community was
overwhelming! The following individuals and organizations
deserve special recognition for their charitable efforts
including: Assemblyman George Amedore; the staff at 1490 WCSS;
The Daily Gazette for the great news coverage; and Tony Centi
at The Crystal Restaurant for his donation of 50 turkeys!
This was an incredible effort by everyone
involved and it just shows what a wonderful and caring
community we have right here in Amsterdam!
