Fourth-grade field trip to Lowes

Mr. Kruger's fourth-grade class recently visited the Lowes hardware store in Amsterdam to learn about different building materials for a Longhouse building project.

The students are working with Ms. Marek, the school's art teacher, to research materials that would be best for building a Longhouse here at MCI. While at Lowes, the students were split up into four groups, each of which had to select building materials they thought were best suited for the project. Students were required to determine the size and quantity of the materials they would need, as well as the cost.

The staff at Lowes was extremely helpful and invited the students into their meeting room at the end of the trip to answer questions. Each student was also given their own take home tool kit to build.

This was an excellent field trip and helped the students learn more about the process of building a Longhouse.
