Returned Check Policy

The Board of Education of the Greater Amsterdam School District hereby establishes a policy regarding checks that are returned due to insufficient funds.

  1. The first time a check is returned for insufficient funds, the District will charge the drawer of the check a service charge of twenty-five dollars ($25.00)

  2. The second time a check is returned for insufficient funds, the District will charge the drawer of the check an additional service charge of twenty-five dollars ($25.00). After the second returned check, the drawer will be required to make all future payments to the District in the form of a bank check, money order or cash.

By this policy, and the publication of this policy, the District seeks to inform all District students, parents, guardians, employees, residents and all persons or entities who pay the District by check of the measures which the District plans to employ to offset the time and expense of checks that are returned due to insufficient funds.

District publications, such as the District's Student Handbooks, Codes of Conduct, Employee Handbook or District Newsletter, shall be amended to reflect the requirements of this policy.

Effective Date of Policy: This policy shall take effect on December 22, 2004.
