General Information

Dear Families,

It gives me great pleasure to know that I will be working with you and your kindergartner.  I look forward to the exciting and rewarding experiences we will have together.  The following information may help to answer any questions you may have about our classroom.

Snack

The children will be given time to have a snack each day in the afternoon.  It is your responsibility to send in a daily snack for your child.  Please send in a healthy snack for your child in a separate bag or lunch box clearly labeled snack.  I strongly urge all parents to send a snack every day as our lunch is very early at 11:15am!

Milk

Snack milk is provided on a weekly basis for a $2.00 for a full week.  If your child chooses to purchase milk for snack, money must be sent in a sealed envelope with your child’s name, my name (Mrs. Ogborn) and the type of milk your child would like.  The milk choices are chocolate, 2% white or skim.  Snack milk is collected on Friday Mornings Only (unless otherwise noted or your child is absent from school).  Please make sure I receive your child's milk money on this day. You may also wish to provide your child with a beverage daily for snack if they do not want milk.  No soda allowed!

Lunch

Kindergarten  will eat lunch from  11:15-11:45 each day.  Children may bring a packed lunch from home or eat a school lunch.  If your child is eating a school lunch please make sure that any money for the lunch program is in a sealed envelope and labeled and placed in your child's folder. A school menu will be sent home month.

Folders

A clearly labeled folder is needed for your child so that daily school papers, parent letters, etc. can be sent to and from school.  Anything you send to school (notes, money etc.) should be in this folder.  I will check the folders in the morning.  Please empty your child’s folder on a daily basis, as important notes/messages often go home.

Birthdays

We will celebrate each child’s birthday as it comes along in the school year since it is a special day for your child.  On your child's birthday feel free to send a birthday snack.  No party favors or presents please.  I ask that if you bring a cake in you also provide plates and forks.  We will celebrate summer birthdays during the last few weeks of school!

Book Orders

Every month I will be sending home a Scholastic Book Club order for you and your child to look over. This is a great way to build your home library at reduced prices!  If you choose to order, please send the order form and a check made out to “Scholastic Book Club” to school in a sealed envelope with your child’s name on it.  It usually takes two weeks to receive the ordered books.

Family Involvement

You will be welcome to come and visit/or participate in our classroom throughout the year. There will be many ways for you to join us.  I will share those ways on our open house night and throughout the year via my weekly newsletter.  Mystery Readers are always welcome into the classroom to read a few stories to the class.  Please let me know if you or any family member is interested in reading to the class.

Safety

Your child’s safety is very important to us.  Please send in a note to school or call the school if your child is to go home a different way than normal.  This includes having another adult pick up your child from school.  Also please notify the school of any change in address or emergency telephone numbers.

I am looking forward to a fun and productive school year!  Please contact me anytime through a note, email (kogborn@gasd.org) or phone call if you have any questions or concerns.  I will try to get back to you as quickly as possible. It is my wish that this will be an enjoyable year for your child.

Mrs. Ogborn
