AHS bomb threats under investigation
Wednesday, May 7, 2008 – The Montgomery
County Sheriff’s Department and New York State Police are
investigating two bomb threats that were phoned in to
Amsterdam High School early in the afternoon.
The calls were received at about 12:30 p.m.,
and students and staff were immediately evacuated to the
high school’s athletic fields, said Superintendent Ronald
Limoncelli.
Law enforcement and Town of Amsterdam Fire
Department officials conducted a thorough search of the
building with assistance from a local police department’s
bomb-sniffing dog. The search turned up no evidence of a
bomb or other explosive device, Limoncelli said.
The sheriff’s department and state police are
conducting an investigation into the source of the two phone
calls, and the school district’s telephone company is
cooperating in the investigation, Limoncelli said.
Students and staff waited on the athletic
fields for about two hours while the search was conducted.
They were allowed back into the building at about 2:30p.m.,
and school was dismissed immediately.
